Les morceaux réunis dans Spirit of the Cosmos font partie des toutes premières créations d'Austin Wintory alors qu'il était adolescent. Par conséquent, ils ne se démarquent pas forcément par leur dimension novatrice et on reconnaîtra des mouvements qui ont fait leurs preuves dans la musique orchestrale (beaucoup d'entre eux me rappellent des musiques de films d'aventures voire même de Disney). Ça n'en fait pas un mauvais album pour autant : non seulement il est ravissant mais aussi très beau !

Comment écouter The Conformation et ne pas être émerveillé par le talent pluridisciplinaire d'Austin Wintory ? Cet album est très court mais confirme qu'aucun format ne lui fait peur, même celui aussi marginal que la musique destinée à de la fiction radiophonique. Il s'attaque aussi au genre de l'horreur sans rien sacrifier de son style orchestral. Le violon mélancolique de Tina Guo part à la rencontre de sons décousus, glauques ; c'est une harmonie distordue qui se forme. Vraiment fascinant !
